A Success Story: Strengthening the Family Through Financial Independence
Bilaspur, 17 December 2024 Women in rural areas are writing their own success stories by joining the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM), and one such example is Ravikumari Didi from the Urdan village in the Bilha block, who has become a “Lakhs-Pati Didi” through her hard work and determination.
Ravikumari Didi, a member of the Maa Sahodra Self-Help Group, started various businesses such as sewing, vegetable farming, e-rickshaw operation, and making traditional plates through the group. These activities have helped her become financially independent, and today she is not only financially stable but also an inspiration to other women in her community.
Talking about her journey, Ravikumari Didi explained that before joining the scheme, she was involved in agricultural work and labor, which earned her only ₹55,000 annually, making it difficult to support her children’s education and household expenses. However, after joining the self-help group, she took a ₹3 lakh loan from the bank, which allowed her to set up her own business at home.
She now runs various income-generating activities, including vegetable farming, sewing, vegetable selling, and making traditional plates, in addition to her agricultural work. Ravikumari Didi’s yearly income has grown significantly. Her earnings are as follows:
- Agriculture: ₹55,000
- Sewing: ₹36,000
- Vegetable Farming: ₹24,000
- Making Traditional Plates: ₹15,000
- Vegetable Business: ₹1,80,000
- E-Rickshaw: ₹1,20,000
Thus, she is now earning ₹4,43,000 annually, which has made a substantial difference in her family’s financial situation.
Ravikumari Didi credits the government’s initiatives to make women financially independent as a lifeline for women like her. She is now not only supporting her family but also becoming a role model for others in her community. She expressed her heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai for implementing such schemes, which have been a blessing for her and many others like her.
