Chandigarh, December 7, 2024 The Silk Mark Expo-2024, organized by the Indian Silk Mark Organization in collaboration with the Punjab Horticulture Department and the Central Silk Board, has emerged as a grand success. Held at Kisan Bhawan, Sector 35, Chandigarh, the expo was inaugurated on December 4 by Punjab Horticulture Minister Mahinder Bhagat and continues to draw thousands of silk enthusiasts.

Promoting Rural Empowerment and Sericulture Development

Under the guidance of Minister Mahinder Bhagat and supervision by Anurag Verma, Additional Chief Secretary of the Horticulture Department, Punjab has become a frontrunner in sericulture. This initiative aims to provide sustainable livelihoods for rural communities. Districts such as Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, and Ropar have seen significant advancements in sericulture cultivation.

Commenting on the expo’s success, Minister Mahinder Bhagat said, “Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab government is committed to empowering rural communities. The Silk Mark Expo is a testament to our resolve to expand the sericulture sector, ensuring better livelihoods for farmers and artisans.”

Unique Opportunity for Silk Enthusiasts

Punjab Horticulture Director Shrimati Shailendra Kaur highlighted that pure silk products are attracting numerous consumers. The expo, running until December 9, provides a unique platform for people to purchase and learn about authentic silk products.

Diverse Exhibits from Across India

The expo features a wide array of stalls showcasing silk sarees, stoles, and home décor items crafted from pure silk. Exhibitors from Punjab, Haryana, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, and other states have displayed their exquisite creations. The significant sales and footfall underline the growing demand for silk products among consumers.

The Silk Mark Expo-2024 not only promotes the richness of silk products but also strengthens Punjab’s position as a hub for sericulture, paving the way for rural prosperity and cultural preservation.
