A Beacon of Women’s Economic Empowerment
Raipur, January 8, 2025
The women of Shuklabhatha-Vicharpur village in Mungeli district have set a remarkable example of self-reliance. Under the visionary guidance of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai, the district administration’s efforts to promote women’s economic empowerment have borne fruit, as seen in the success story of the Sakhi Saheli Self-Help Group (SHG).
The women of this group took a bold step by starting a fish farming business with a ₹6 lakh loan from Setganga Gramin Bank under the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM). This initiative has significantly improved their financial stability. The group’s president, Smt. Pushpa Bai Gabel, shared that earlier, the women were solely dependent on agriculture. Low income from farming made it challenging to meet household needs. After joining the SHG and receiving a ₹15,000 revolving fund under the government’s Cyclical Fund scheme, they secured a bank loan and ventured into fish farming. Gradually expanding their operations, they have now achieved financial independence.
The success of the group has not only improved their living standards but has also made them a source of inspiration for other women in their community. The group’s president expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai and the district administration, emphasizing that their achievements are a result of government schemes and their effective implementation.
The story of the Sakhi Saheli Group is an inspiring example for all women striving to transform their lives. It highlights the power of collective effort and the impact of supportive policies in enabling women to achieve economic empowerment.
