Bhopal: Friday, November , 2024: Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav expressed grave concern over the recent deaths of elephants in Umaria district, holding an emergency meeting at his residence late this evening.

Three-member team, including Minister of State for Forests, to examine all aspects of the incident.
Emergency meeting convened by Chief Minister Dr. Yadav to address the tragedy.
Strict action to be taken against those found guilty.

During the meeting, CM Dr. Yadav directed that a high-level team be dispatched immediately to the incident site to conduct a comprehensive investigation. He stressed that a detailed report must be submitted within 24 hours. Dr. Yadav emphasized that severe action will be taken against anyone found responsible. He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to protecting forests and ensuring the safety of wildlife.

Dr. Yadav noted initial findings suggesting that large quantities of *kodo* millet were discovered in the elephants’ stomachs during post-mortem examinations. Scientific analysis of these samples will determine whether any toxic substances were involved. As laboratory results may take up to four days, Dr. Yadav ordered senior officials to gather all possible information in the meantime. The investigation team will include Minister of State for Forests Mr. Dilip Ahirwar, Additional Chief Secretary (Forest) Mr. Ashok Barnwal, and PCCF Mr. Asim Srivastava. The team will visit Umaria on Saturday to collect all relevant details.

The Chief Minister emphasized the need for constant vigilance and sensitivity from the Forest Department, local authorities, and all stakeholders to prevent similar incidents in the future. He warned that if any negligence in treatment or management is uncovered, strict action will be taken against those responsible.

Chief Secretary Mr. Anurag Jain joined the emergency meeting virtually, while senior officials including Additional Chief Secretary to the CM’s Office Dr. Rajesh Rajora, Director General of Police Mr. Sudhir Kumar Saxena, and Commissioner of Public Relations Dr. Sudam Khade were present at the Chief Minister’s residence.
