Chief Minister Shri Sahu Reviews Energy Department
Raipur, 17 February 2025: Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sahu chaired a detailed review meeting of the Energy Department at the Mahanadi Bhavan Secretariat today. He emphasized ensuring uninterrupted power supply, promoting solar energy, and adopting innovative technologies to reduce energy costs. “Our focus is to make Chhattisgarh energy self-reliant by leveraging solar energy, modern technology, and improved consumer services. We aim to electrify every household, both in rural and urban areas, at a faster pace,” he said.
Accelerating Electrification in Naxal-Affected Areas
The Chief Minister praised the progress made under the Niyad Nellanar Scheme in electrifying Naxal-affected areas. He emphasized that connecting villages in these regions to electricity is a top priority for the state government.

“Electrification in these areas is not just about providing power but also about integrating residents into the mainstream of development and improving their standard of living,” he added. Shri Sahu directed officials to ensure electricity facilities reach the remaining deprived areas promptly.
Consumer-Friendly Measures: Relief in Electricity Bills and Promotion of Online Payments
The Chief Minister announced plans to provide special relief measures for consumers with outstanding electricity bills. He suggested introducing a one-time settlement scheme, enabling consumers to clear dues conveniently, which would benefit both citizens and government revenue.
To encourage digital payments, Shri Sahu directed that consumers be provided with SMS updates about their electricity bills and links for easy online payments, ensuring convenience and a more transparent billing process.
Encouraging Technological Innovation and Expanding Solar Energy
The Chief Minister emphasized the use of advanced technologies to enhance efficiency in the energy sector. He urged officials to develop strategies to minimize Transmission and Distribution (T&D) losses and address technical and commercial challenges effectively.
Highlighting the immense potential for solar energy in Chhattisgarh, he said, “Solar energy projects must be prioritized to harness the state’s potential. Plans should be implemented to promote solar energy at domestic, commercial, and industrial levels, ensuring a sustainable energy future.”
The Chief Minister instructed officials to expedite solar energy projects and involve more stakeholders to achieve energy self-reliance.
State Government’s Commitment to Energy Self-Reliance
The Chief Minister also stressed strengthening the transmission network and enhancing power quality to ensure uninterrupted supply for both urban and rural consumers.
The review meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Shri Amitabh Jain, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Shri Subodh Singh, and senior officials of Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Company Limited.
