Affordable Housing Through Atal Vihar Scheme
1650 Homes to Be Built Across Chhattisgarh
Subsidies of ₹80,000 for EWS and ₹40,000 for LIG Homes Provided by the State Government

Raipur, December 9, 2024

The Chhattisgarh government, under its visionary “Housing for All” initiative, has launched the Atal Vihar Scheme to make affordable housing a reality for low-income families. Seven residential projects created by the Chhattisgarh Housing Board were officially opened by Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai at a ceremony held at his home.

Vision for Affordable Housing

Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai emphasized the government’s commitment to providing every citizen with a safe and affordable home. “With one year of our government completed, we are proud to announce the Atal Vihar Scheme. This initiative is focused on offering affordable housing to those in need, especially in urban areas, fulfilling their dream of owning a secure and permanent home,” said the Chief Minister.

Key Projects and Locations

The seven residential projects will span various locations across the state, including:

  • Bhorkoni, Raipur
  • Patharra, Rajim
  • Khartuli, Dhamtari
  • Sihad, Dhamtari
  • Pulgaon, Durg
  • Gurur, Balod
  • Kokadapara, Bijapur

The initiative will involve the construction of 1,650 homes, with 1,452 units in the EWS (Economically Weaker Section) and LIG (Low-Income Group) categories and 200 units in the MIG (Middle-Income Group) category. The total investment for these projects is estimated at ₹300 crore.

Online Registration and Subsidies

Prospective beneficiaries can register for these houses online via the Chhattisgarh Housing Board’s official website (www.cghb.gov.in), making the process seamless and accessible. Additionally, the state government has extended significant subsidies:

  • ₹80,000 per unit for EWS homes
  • ₹40,000 per unit for LIG homes

Inspired by PMAY

The Chief Minister noted that the scheme draws inspiration from the central government’s Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), which aims to provide housing for all urban poor families. “Building on this vision, the Atal Vihar Scheme aims to construct and allocate 50,000 houses across the state in the coming years,” said Shri Sai.

Government Support and Land Allocation

The government has simplified land allocation processes to expedite the projects. District collectors have been instructed to provide land to the housing board at a nominal rate of ₹1 per square foot. This will help ensure affordable housing prices for beneficiaries.

Quality Construction and Statewide Expansion

Finance and Housing Minister Shri O.P. Choudhary assured that the houses will be built with the highest quality standards. “Even the most remote regions of Chhattisgarh will profit from this revolutionary plan because it reaches as far out as Bijapur.

Relief for Existing Homeowners

The state government has also provided significant relief to existing homeowners under the housing board’s Freehold Regularization Scheme. As per the cabinet decision on November 26, 2024, diversion fees and penalties for converting leasehold properties to freehold have been waived entirely. This decision will benefit over 80,000 homeowners.

A Milestone for Chhattisgarh’s Housing Goals

The event was attended by senior officials, including Principal Secretary Shri P. Dayanand, Housing and Environment Secretary Shri Ankit Anand, Urban Administration Secretary Shri Basav Raju S., and Housing Board Commissioner Shri Kundan Kumar. With this initiative, the Chhattisgarh government reaffirms its dedication to improving the quality of life for its citizens, ensuring access to affordable and sustainable housing solutions.

Key Highlights of the Atal Vihar Scheme:

  • Budget-Friendly Housing: Emphasising EWS, LIG, and MIG categories.
  • Convenient Process: Online registration for transparency and accessibility.
  • Massive Investment: ₹300 crore allocated for 1,650 houses in Phase 1.
